What breaks when US companies sell in Europe.

11 things we fix in almost every audit, sorted by business model. Each one costs trust, rankings or money.

Every company selling to Europe

With or without an EU entity. These apply the moment EU customers use your site or product.

  1. Consent that actually blocks

US tag setups often fire analytics and ad pixels before anyone clicks. In Germany that invites an Abmahnung, a paid cease-and-desist letter from competitors or associations. We set up cookieless analytics or a consent banner that blocks by default, depending on what you need.

  2. Data leaving the EU

US hosting, US CRM, US analytics: every transfer needs a legal basis and a paper trail. We keep hosting and data flows inside the EU.

  3. An EU representative

Companies without an EU entity usually need a representative under Art. 27 GDPR. Many US companies selling to Europe do not know this. Our legal partners provide one.

  4. The Impressum

Every German-facing business site needs a legal notice with a physical address and a responsible person. Without it you lose trust and risk a fine.

  5. VAT from the first sale

Selling to EU consumers means EU VAT, usually through the One-Stop-Shop. We connect shop, invoicing and bookkeeping so the numbers match.

  6. E-invoicing

German B2B customers must be able to receive structured e-invoices since 2025, and issuing becomes mandatory for German businesses from 2027. We connect your invoicing to German-compliant tools and archives.

SaaS, apps and AI

Digital products and services used by people in the EU.

  1. The EU AI Act

If your product uses AI and EU users touch it, the AI Act applies: transparency when people talk to a machine, AI literacy for staff, and far more for high-risk uses. We map your AI features and implement what is required.

  2. Accessibility

The European Accessibility Act applies to online stores and many consumer-facing digital services since June 2025. We build to it from the start, not as a retrofit.

Online stores and physical products

Anything you ship to a customer in the EU.

  1. 14-day returns and shop law

Right of withdrawal, price display rules and the payment methods German customers expect. Standard shop setups from the US are often not enough.

  2. A responsible person for product safety

Since December 2024 the GPSR requires an EU-based responsible person for consumer products. Marketplaces block listings without one.

  3. Packaging, electronics and batteries

Packaging registration in LUCID before the first shipment, plus WEEE and battery registration for anything with a plug or a cell. Unregistered goods may not be sold.

General information, not legal advice. Your lawyer or tax advisor confirms what applies to your case.

Questions US companies ask.

Straight answers. For anything else, the intro call is free.

We sell to EU customers from the US. Are we affected?

Yes. GDPR, consumer law, VAT and product rules apply as soon as you sell to or collect data from people in the EU, whether or not you have an office here. Without an EU entity you usually also need an EU representative under Art. 27 GDPR.

Do we need a German entity to sell in Germany?

No. You need a legal notice, an EU representative if you have no EU establishment, a compliant shop and privacy setup, and a way to invoice correctly. We implement all of that and bring the legal partners.

Does this cover the whole EU or only Germany?

GDPR and most digital rules apply across all 27 member states. Germany adds the strictest enforcement and a few extras, such as the Impressum and packaging registration. We start with Germany because passing here means passing everywhere, then add markets as extensions.

Does the EU AI Act apply to us?

If EU users interact with AI in your product, or your AI output is used in the EU, most likely yes. Chatbots must say they are machines, staff using AI need basic training, and high-risk uses carry heavy duties. We map your AI features in the audit and implement what applies.

Do we need to register for VAT in Germany?

If you sell to EU consumers, you owe VAT in the customer country. The One-Stop-Shop lets you file for all EU countries in one return instead of registering in each. B2B sales usually shift VAT to the customer. Your tax advisor confirms the setup, we build it into shop and invoicing.

Do you give legal advice?

No. We implement the technical and content requirements and bring lawyers, data protection officers and EU representatives into the package where the law requires them. You get one contact and one invoice.

How long does it take, and what does it cost?

The audit takes ten days and has a fixed price that we quote in the intro call. A launch for the first market often takes two to four weeks, depending on translation and shop complexity. We do not publish prices, because no two market entries are alike. You get a fixed project quote within ten days of the audit.
